DIY Stereo-lithography
All industrial designers know how valuable it is to hold a prototype/mock-up in your hands.
Most of us know the joy of holding a highly detailed, ‘fresh from the oven’ SLA part. Trading hours in the workshop with sandpaper for cans of jolt in front of the computer.
Most of us know as well the amount of Kronors, Dollars, Yens, Euros that these tools cost. For the most part, our clients and companies pay for that indispensable luxury.
However, U of Wisconsin published a list of ingredients and tools (3 chemicals and 5 instruments) to get you going with your own DIY SLA 3D printer.
According to the abstract: “[You] can learn about this emerging technology and also about some of the polymer science behind it, connecting chemistry to a variety of disciplines, including engineering and art.” The site is complete with mini videos of stages of the process, take a look.
